Her symptoms were so severe she was left bed-bound and forced to sign off sick from her bank clerking job.

To manage her pain she was prescribed a cocktail of drugs including opiates, which made her pile on the pounds and suffer worrying memory loss.

But then she discovered a drug-free, natural remedy called Celafen, which she claims has cured her condition.

Liz, an aspiring opera singer, told the Mail Online: “I was amazed that within a few hours of putting the cream on my knees and my neck, the pain started to ease and the swelling abated slightly.

“By the end of the first week I was able to start reducing my daily intake of painkillers.”

Liz, from County Wexford in Ireland, believes her condition was triggered by the stress of her husband, Keith’s, spinal illness.

She was given a painkiller called Cymbalta, an anti-anxiety relaxant called Lyrica, the opiate tramadol and a strong anti-inflammatory called Mefac, which she says left her suffering muscle spasms.

The myriad of drugs even gave her an allergic reaction, causing her tongue to swell up.

Liz said she was left “spaced out” by all the medication which left her “like a zombie and falling asleep all the time”.

She searched online for something to relieve her pain and discovered Celafen.

It is chemical-free blend of fatty acids with anti-inflammatory properties, celadrin, menthol, vitamin E anti-oxidants and arnica.

According to the manufactures website Celafen is an “effective alternative” to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to manage daily pain.

Liz claims the cream has helped her quit taking most of her painkillers and “return to an almost normal life”.

Pop star Lady Gaga was forced to pull out of a concert in Brazil earlier this month.

The Born This Way singer shocked fans with the news she suffers from the chronic pain condition in her new Netflix documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two.

In the trailer for the documentary – which was filmed over eight months last year – Gaga can be seen wincing in pain as a physician works on her shoulder.

She first mentioned her battle back in November when she took to Instagram to say: “Having a frustrating day with chronic pain, but I find myself feeling so blessed to have such strong intelligent female doctors.

Also known as fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), fibromyalgia is a long-term condition which causes pain all over the body.

As well as chronic pain, fibromyalgia can cause increased sensitivity to pain, fatigue and muscle stiffness, according to the NHS.

Sufferers can also have difficulty sleeping, as well as memory loss, concentration problems, headaches and irritable bowel syndrome.

The exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, but researchers believe it may be related to chemicals in the brain and could be affected by genes inherited from your parents.

There is no cure for fibromyalgia, although the symptoms can be controlled to make it easier to live with.

Exercise has been found to help ease many painful symptoms, while others find relaxation techniques can help keep the condition under control.

Treatment could include a combination of lifestyle changes, painkilling medication and counselling or another form of therapy, like CBT.
